Designed by Ross Brawn (ex-Arrows F1) the XJR-14 is a kind of closed single-seater. Moreover without opening door, the pilot must come into the cockpit by the window. In addition to its tended line, underlined by the "curtain folds” livery, it is characterized by its rear wing that comes from the biplanes of the World War II.

After Le Mans 24 Hours and the unexpected Mazda 787B's victory Peugeot arrived in Nürburgring with the 905 Evolution 1 bis: a complete new front bonnet and the same biplane rear wing as Jaguar. Mercedes relied on the C291 and the up-new engine valves to make the difference.

By Jaguar Teo Fabio took the pole position in front of the Peugeot car #5 of Baldi/Alliot and #6 of Dalmas/Rosberg eand the Mercedes C291 car #1 of Schlesser/Mass and car #2 of Schumacher. For the race the Jaguars expected tough opposition from the two Mercedes C291 car #1 of Schlesser/Mass and car #2 of Schumacher and Peugeots car #5 of Baldi/Alliot and #6 of Dalmas/Rosberg. But one by one they fell by the wayside, Rosberg's Peugeot first on lap eight when he went out of the track, then Schumacher's Mercedes with a broken engine two laps later. Schlessers's Mercedes lasted 28 laps until the gearbox broke. Then Baldi did snatch the lead in the much-improved Peugeot 905 until the V10 engine ran out of oil on lap 56:  Warwick arriving first on the scene. The remaining cars were not considered a threat, enabling the Jaguars to ease up during the final laps. Warwick crossed the line first in Jaguar #3, with Brabham on the last stint in #4 a few second behind.
After Monza (round 2), Silverstone (round 3) it was the third time Jaguar won the two first overall places and it is enough to lead the World Championship.
