Thirty years ago, Hannu Mikkola, with a little help from co-driver Gunnar Palm, carved a place for himself and FEV 1H in rallying’s history books with a dominant drive to victory on the epic 16,000-mile Daily Mirror World Cup rally.
Conceived as a promotional event for that summer’s football World Cup, the rally linked London, the site of the 1966 World Cup, with Mexico, the venue for the 1970 tournament. It was the longest and most ambitious trip in post-war rallying, and received massive world-wide publicity.
It would also make superstars of Mikkola and Escort.
Scalextric first made the Ford Escort in 1970 and issued six liveries which, even today, are very desirable cars for the rally enthusiast. The latest Scalextric version of this car improves upon the original model design in all area – detail, interior fittings, body shape, livery decoration and stunning performance. The car is fitted with the super-fast in-line FF motor.
This model includes brand new tooling elements.
A standard Scalextric Ford Escort also won the Brooklands Test Hill Challenge in August 2009.
