The XJR6 was the first Sport-Prototype Jaguar produced by Tom Walkinshaw Racing according to the Group C regulations, to be engaged in the World Sports-Prototype Championship.
The car was designed by Tony Southgate; it represents an innovation for the time, with a highly advanced aerodynamic package. It was the first Group C car to have a chassis all made of composite materials, with carbon and kevlar fibers reinforcement. The overall weight was less than 900 kg.
The engine, developed by Alan Scott, was a V12 with two valves per cylinder. It was a stock block unit, showing a direct connection between Jaguar's racing and road cars. However, it was a fully-stressed member, carrying the entire transmission, axle and suspension assemblies. In 1986, its displacement was 6.5 liters, with over 650 hp.
The Speedline wheels were made of magnesium; diameter was 17 inches at front and 19 at rear.
The car made its debut in the last 1985 races; but its more important year was 1986, the first complete season for TWR Jaguars. The very first victory was the Silverstone 1000 km, when Derek Warwick and Eddie Cheever won on the car with chassis “286” and race number 51.
