The Nissan R390 GT1 was a racing car built to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1997 and 1998; it was developed by Nismo and the Tom Walkinshaw Racing team.
In 1998, it was modified in particular in order to generate more downforce, thanks to a longer rear tail. Four Nissan R390 GT1 were entered to the Le Mans race, and all of them were able to finish the race, getting the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 10th positions.
The car featured a carbon monocoque chassis, and a twin turbo V8 3496 cc engine.
The car number 33 was driven by the Japanese Satoshi Motoyama, Masami Kageyama and Takuya Kurosawa: since all the three drivers scored only one Le Mans participation, before the '98, we could talk about a “Nissan junior team”. Their Nissan could be easily distinguished from the others by the green and silver decoration.
The Japanese writings on the rear hood, over the wheels, are messages sent by the readers of the magazine that was one of the sponsors of this car.
