The Slot.it SP15C1 is a digital chip designed to convert Slot.it and Policar cars to the Scalextric Digital / Hornby SSD system. Fully natively compatible and equipped with the original Hornby firmware, it delivers behavior that is true to the SSD system while maintaining simple, clean, and efficient integration. Its compact format has been designed to fit easily into most recent Slot.it and Policar chassis, often without soldering, with an optimized layout inside the car. A dedicated connection also allows the addition of a remote SP32 infrared LED when the chassis configuration requires it. Reliable, practical, and modern, the SP15C1 is an ideal solution for digitizing a car and fully enjoying the performance of Scalextric Digital.

Technical differences between the SP15D and the SP15C1

The SP15D is a reprogrammable chip designed to allow firmware updates via an app, as well as adjustment of certain settings, including maximum speed and braking. Under normal conditions, its operation is satisfactory. However, on some tracks where the electrical supply fluctuates — for example due to imperfect connections, a very long layout, or the absence of booster cables — it may show jerky running, uneven speed, or unstable behavior. This sensitivity comes from a characteristic specific to the Nordic chip used in the SP15D and cannot be corrected at the chip level itself, but only at the track level. With good electrical connections and effective booster cables, the SP15D works properly.

The SP15C1 was specifically designed as a more tolerant alternative for this type of situation. It is based on the SP15C family architecture in a revised version, with an LED moved further forward to ensure reliable operation also with certain ARC PRO systems. Apart from this layout change, it remains identical to the original SP15C. The SP15C1 offers no reprogramming, no speed adjustment, and no braking adjustment. In return, it is more tolerant of electrical fluctuations and maintains smoother, more consistent operation on tracks with less-than-optimal connections, where an SP15D may prove more sensitive.
