Expertise and quality of model making at the service of a passion
Description
Rounds 3 and 4 of the British GT championship took place at Oulton Park. Lee Mowle and Joe Osborne took their BMW Z4 GT3 to very respectable 2nd place finish.
With production starting in 2002 the rear wheel drive BMW Z4 follows in the tyre tracks of models such as the Z1, 507, Z8 and Z3. Winning Automobile Magazine "Design of the Year Award" in 2008 the first generation (02-08) were manufactured in South Carolina of BMW US with production of the second generation (09) moving to BMW’s German plant in Regensburg. Again, this second generation was recognised with the Red Dot Design Award in 2009.
Produced from 2010 to 2013 the homologated GT3 variant included an engine capacity increase from the standard six-cylinders to a 4.4-litre eight-cylinder unit delivering an impressive 508 bhp. As well as going to the gym the GT3 had been on strict diet with weight reducing to 1,200 kg from around 1,500 kg across the 4 models to ensure a competitive power to weight ratio come race day.
