Expertise and quality of model making at the service of a passion
Description
Crossing America from South to North, from end to end, is no trivial matter. And even more so if it is attempted by four girls, none of whom professional race drivers, behind the wheel of two four tin cans in the 60s. This was the monumental challenge which four French women faced with the intrepid model and journalist, Michèle Ray as their captain. It was 1965. After one year of preparation, they departed from Ushuaia (Argentina) direction Anchorage (Alaska, United States), on an adventure which led them to cover 40,000 kilometres in four and a half months. Weeks of gruelling driving over sand, mud, snow, ice and, in some cases, also tarmac lay ahead of them. A crossing which (remember we are in 1965 at this point) took them from the solitude of Patagonia to the depths of the forest, passing through the icy highlands of Peru and Bolivia, the deserts of northern Mexico and the Canadian forests. From sea level to more than 5,000 metres altitude on an adventure from another era, subjecting the small Renaults to a level of punishment which very few motorcars would stand up to. But they managed it. And they reached the vicinity of the Arctic Polar Circle like heroines, certifying once more that the 4L was, literally, a car that could take you to the end of the world.
