The No. 79 Mazda RX-7 marked the model’s first official appearance at the Florida endurance classic. Driven by Bob Bergström and Brad Frisselle, the C & F Enterprises-prepared car showed impressive pace before a suspension failure forced it to retire. Despite the early exit, this effort was a milestone for Mazda in American endurance racing, paving the way for the brand’s later IMSA successes throughout the 1980s.
